Internal Structural Steelwork Installation – Open Plan Living Area & Kitchen, Burbage
J Harding Construction carried out significant internal structural alterations to create a large open-plan kitchen and living area within a property in Burbage. The project involved the careful removal of internal load-bearing walls and the installation of structural steelwork to safely support the existing structure above.
Temporary support systems were first installed throughout the working area to safely carry the load of the upper floor and roof while structural changes were undertaken. Once the structure was secured, sections of the original internal walls were removed to open up the space between the existing rooms and the new extension area.
A series of heavy-duty steel beams were then installed in accordance with the structural engineer’s specifications. These beams were carefully positioned and supported using adjustable steel props during installation to ensure precise alignment and structural integrity. The steelwork forms the primary load-bearing structure for the newly created open-plan layout, allowing for wide, unobstructed spans across the kitchen and living space.
Following the installation of the steel beams, new structural timbers and floor supports were integrated with the steelwork to complete the framework ready for the next stage of construction. The work required detailed planning, precise measurements and strict adherence to structural engineering requirements to ensure the building remained fully supported at all times.
The result is a strong structural framework that enables a bright, spacious open-plan kitchen and living area, significantly enhancing both the functionality and flow of the home.
