Period Loft Conversion & Staircase Installation – Burbage, Leicestershire

This period loft conversion project in Burbage, Leicestershire, showcases how an unused attic space can be sensitively transformed into a practical and beautifully finished living area while retaining the charm of the original property.
The loft was previously used only for storage, but with thoughtful planning and skilled craftsmanship, it has been converted into a comfortable and versatile new room. Our work began with reinforcing the existing roof structureand installing modern insulation to ensure the new space would be efficient and warm throughout the year.
To introduce natural daylight and create a bright, welcoming environment, we installed Velux roof windows, carefully positioned to maximise light and ventilation. These windows help to open up the space and provide a pleasant connection to the outdoors.
A key part of the project was the installation of a bespoke staircase leading up to the new room. The staircase was designed to integrate seamlessly with the existing first-floor layout, ensuring it feels like part of the original house rather than an addition. The result is a smooth, natural flow between the new loft space and the rest of the home.
The finished conversion provides a light-filled, flexible living area that can be used as a bedroom, home office, studio, or guest room. The design and finish respect the character of the property while delivering the comfort and practicality expected in a modern home.
This project highlights J Harding Construction Ltd’s expertise in period property conversions, balancing traditional craftsmanship with modern building techniques to deliver results that are both functional and sympathetic to original style.
